Product Reviews
Just what I wanted
This is a wonderful addition to my growing razor collection. I received it yesterday and I have only used it once. But the first experience was great. A close shave with the Merkur blade provided. I am interested to try other blades, especially Gillette Silver Blue.

There should be no hesitation based on fear for this fine tool. I have a EJ 89L with which I have been very happy. My initial reaction is that this razor is equally well made and a fine companion. I don't have enough face with it time to grant it "favorite" status but was well pleased with my purchase.

I like the fact that this is a two piece razor and I don't have to juggle three pieces and a sharp blade.

Wide gap, yet not aggressive at all.
My wife bought me this razor for my birthday, and I've loved becoming acquainted with it- for me it shines with a silver-blue blade or something that sharp. I was a bit confused when i first used it, as it seems to produce a quite mild shave (a bit more aggresive than a gillette tech or maybe slightly more than my adjustable set to 4-5) which is counter to most of the reviews and opinions i've read about it- It seems to have a seriously wide gap and i think really the look must impart an "intimidation factor". But the head is so sloped (compared to say an edwin jagger d-89 ) that it seems that the blade as it exits the cap is more in line with the face and therefore cuts a notch less aggressively. My d-89 requires a slightly lighter touch and though it really cuts close, i wear any fault in my procedure, technique or blade on my face- and i really shouldn't do more than two passes most days. I can safely say, that the Merkur is more forgiving to me and i can self-butcher (even against the grain on my upper lip - an area of particular difficulty with my d-89) without fear of accidental slicing or irritation. Though it doesn't tend to cut quite as close as the d-89, my face is so relieved that i can work in some touch ups to the same result, just takes a little more time. Really well engineered cutting tool! Now if i could just get one manufactured in brass with nickel plating..
Wow, now that's a close shave!!
Guys, if you're looking for a close shave quickly, you should give this a try, wUsingwas using a Murker 34, and my normal routine was a couple of passes with the grain, a couple across and finish with a couple against the grain. Don't get me wrong, the 34 is a great razor; I was just looking to reduce the time, by increasing efficiency. I heard that this 34 was rated as a 2, where the 37 as a 6, on a scale from 1 to 10 for aggressiveness by other safety razor enthusiasts, so I thought I would give it a try.

Wow! What a difference! One pass with the grain, one against and I was done! Using a hot towel for cleanup demonstrated how close the shave was. Of course finishing off with some after shaving balm, and I was good to go.

This will be my go to shaver, and my 34 will be used for backup and more delicate areas.

Superb Razor!
Just received the razor the other day and used it for the first time and WOW! I have never used a Slant before aaaaand did not know what to expect but what I got was the best shave of my life. After only two passes, I was baby smooth with no irritation ( a First) and thta was with a Merkur blade. I cant wait to try it with a Silver Blue. Awesome!
Close shave!
Yes this is an outstanding razor and gives a very close shave, probably closer than most with the slant edge. I've had to slow down shaving a bit and take my time with this model. It's one of several in the rotation but I do love it's close shave, probably as far as DE razors go, as close as you can get to a straight razor.
Do Not Buy This Razor!
The one razor lacking in my collection was a vintage slant. Couldn't find one in the wild and refused to pay the stupid money they were going for on ebay. I bought this almost 2 years ago. This razor isn't good - it's freaking awesome! It's beautiful, balanced, and shaves great. Why shouldn't you buy it? Since buying this razor, I have only used it and my 1956 Gillette Red Tip. Yeah, your other razors will get little or no use. I finally pulled out my 1918 open comb the other day and it was awesome. Your mileage may vary, so go ahead and buy this slant. But, you've been warned!
