Merkur Safety Razors

Merkur razors were the very first DE's that we carried over here at West Coast Shaving. They are an industry go-to and have set the bar for many other brands. For this reason, we have repeatedly recommend them and repeatedly sold them! The wide array of types of heads ranging from safety bars, open comb, adjustables, and slant bars have made them desirable by many. They do a great job with making those handles grippy. Yes, that razor is not going ot slip in your had with that significant "industrial" feeling knurling. A true favorite safety razor brand with our customers.

Merkur Safety Razors Reviews
Lives up to hype!
After 50 years of cartridge razors, I decided to try a DE mainly because of the cost of cartridges. I spoke to one of the great customer service people who advised the 34C as a "return" to DE shaving. However, I had my first shave at 13 with a Gillette butterfly razor and a Red Blade (this was before stainless blades), so I figured I could handle a slant. I completed my first shave about a half hour ago, and it's great! I used the Astra blade, and it works well.

Before you use it, view the tutorials on Youtube as well as several web pages in reference to slants. Go slow, go light. I only had a couple minor weepers on my neck, and that was because I wasn't paying attention because I was busy congratulating myself in a while I was doing. Thanks WCS!
The Hoffritz
This is the exact head specs on the slant from Hoffritz. It was also manufactured by murker, delivers nice and close shaves. I personally find it easier to use than a straight bar. Barber pole handle doesn't slip as much as some think. Also its plug and play with blades there is no real need to make sure blade is lined up perfectly it will almost always be situated the way it needs to naturally.
Great balance and grip, easy
Great balance and grip, easy to handle, and well-made.
Great razor. Smooth on the
Great since 2009
Merkur 38C HD Long Handle Barber Pole Safety Razor "I purchased the Merkur 38C along with 100 israeli blades from WestCoast in 2009, after talking to a work colleague about the joy of using a 'proper' razor. I was initially put off by the initial investment: retiring my old gillette disposable cartridge style with vibrating handle, and handing over around $120 (from memory) for this razor, blades, a decent entry level brush and some good shaving creme. It seemed like an outrageous price at the time. That was 8 years ago, wow. Since then I have purchased a 25 pack of assorted blades to try out, and bought more of that awesome shaving creme when it ran out. Since then I have convinced two of my friends to make the switch to a proper razor. I have not yet exhausted the blades that I purchased, still have the brush and it's perfect. The razor has been dropped a few times and has a few tiny dents on it, but it's great. I can't believe how little money I have spent in these 8 years on shaving: I'm high-estimating about $2 a month is what I pay for a great shaving kit.

If you're on the fence about making the switch to proper razor, take money out of the equation. If you were like me, you might have been spending around $30 a month on disposable cartridges, and still not having an easy time of shaving. Yes, once you get used to shaving with a real razor you can go back to blind-shaving in the shower without a mirror and still get incredible results. I admit, I'm lazy and I like shaving in the shower and I can do it without a mirror. I was afraid that upgrading to a proper razor would take that away. For the first few weeks, yes until you get used to the way to hold it, and the feedback for get from the sound and feel through the handle, but after that you'll be back in your element.

Best value for money. Great joy has come from this product. If mine was lost or stolen I would replace with another Merkur in an instant without even considering another brand.

Final comments: Try different blades, it's really hard to believe that the blade you will prefer is not the blade that I prefer. I got lucky with Israeli blades, they are still my favourite. Get a good brush.
Great razor
Merkur 25C Long Handle Safety Razor, Open Tooth "Very comfortable razor. I'm a big guy with big hands, this razor is perfectly shaped and great heft. The open comb offers a very agreeable shave with virtually no irritation..
Bald use!
Merkur Classic 1904 / 1906 Safety Razor with Bar "Great razor for beard and bald headed men. Very forgiving when using it on the head. Handle is a little small at times to shave the head but that is easily forgiven with the nicks you save.
Greatest! MERKUR 34C
Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Safety Razor "The MERKUR 34C is a perfect example of precision German engineering and metalworking. It features a nice weight, which provides a smooth shaving experience. This is an excellent shaving tool that also looks very nice.
