Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "I've heard a number of people complain about the handle. My question is why don't you change the handle Düaa I did mine with a icon stainless steel it's a great grip. I love my R 41 it's great and deserves a great handle buy one on eBay for 21$

Great open comb!

Muhle R102 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "Despite a few mediocre reviews, I decided to take a chance on this razor. I'm glad I did. I've got a Merkur 34c and a Merkur Progress, and I was looking to try an open comb. I chose this one based on its sale price. While some say it is too aggressive, I find it to be perfect. I'm getting close, nick-free shaves with fewer passes.

Excellent Razor

Muhle R89 GRANDE Double Edge Safety Razor "A good looking Razor with a flawless finish. It is easy to hold and maneuver due to the larger handle and the three piece design makes it very easy to clean after use. But most important is the simple fact that it gives a great shave!!

Muhle R102 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "Same Razor as an R41 with a different handle. I was going to pair it with one of my stainless handles but it shaves like a dream as is. Even with the standard metal handle I used little Alum on fingers so it’s just as grippy.

Nice Progression from First DE Razor
5/3/2017
Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "My first DE razor was a Merkur 34C and I've shaved with it more or less daily for about 2 years. Prior to that was a Personna Twin. Both are excellent and I contend far better in every way to the plastic, expensive, drug store alternatives. I love my Merkur and have used (and reviewed here) a fairly wide swath of blades with it. But, when I travel or shave in the shower or every now and again use my Personna Twin, I get this secret knot in the pit of my stomach that tells me that I'm working too hard with my 34C and struggling to get the perfect shave that I want...so, I decided to try a "next" DE razor to see if it made a difference and I chose this one based on reviews.

It is quite noticeably different than the Merkur 34C. I think it is actually what I expected the Merkur to be like, scary and perhaps a bad idea. My first shave was a bit bloody, but more than that, I was surprised at how much my skin hurt afterward. Even though my brain said "less pressure", I think my hand thought it was still the Merkur.

But, 3 shaves later, not a scratch and no blood. I have to say that I get a MUCH closer shave with this Muhle. Now that I've adjusted to it, I see no reason not to use it as a daily shaver. It essentially what I wanted, it contrasts with the 34C and I get a closer shave with way less work and fewer passes than I had been expended. I'm glad it wasn't my first DE razor, though.

It's finished nicely and everything is good. I think that I actually like the handle and knurling on the Merkur better, but it's not important and because it's a 3 piece, I could always use a different handle if I wanted to, though I don't think I will. I'm using Astra blades which are my default, but I'll experiment a bit. The thing with this razor is that you know that there is a blade on your face, you can feel it quite clearly, which I never really did with the Merkur.

If it's what you want, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm happy and plan on sticking with it, though my Merkur isn't going anywhere and I could see some wisdom in a rotation, perhaps. Thanks WCS!

R41 Review

Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "West Coast shaving is an excellent company to deal with. There customer service is unsurpassed.

The R41- I was a little worried about it being so aggressive anxiety all the. I found this not to be true. I quickly learned that it is all about the angle of the blade. I get the closest shaves. Most of the time it is one pass with clean up and done. I had read that is the closest DE to a straight razor. I believe it. I have yet to cut myself with it or even get a razor burn.

I would recommend this razor to anyone looking at using an open comb razor.

Muhle R41 Twist

Muhle R41 TWIST Double Edge Safety Razor "45 years of shaving from an old Norelco Electric to Disposables finally led me last year to Double Edge Safety Razors. Somewhat like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, this is my third razor and it is just right. I started with a Viking Godfather (purchased elsewhere), I liked the weight and balance but the handle provided a poor grip and the shave was too mild. I went on to a Merkur 34c which I found to be a good basic razor but generally too small for my hands. I now use the Merkur as my travel razor. Finally, I paid the equivalent of the price of both those razors for my Muhle. Visually it is a work of art. It's beauty is in the fine details and the shining chrome surfaces. It is easier to change blades than with the Viking or Merkur razors, just a twist at the end of the handle is all it takes to release the head. It has the weight and balance of the Viking but the Muhle grip is far superior even when wet and soapy. Overall, I am quite satisfied, and I have settled on this as my primary razor going forward. I hope my review has helped you find your Goldilocks zone razor.

THIS is a Razor!

Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "1st let me say WCS rules. I got this order second day after placing it on the website. That is the longest it ever takes. Sometimes I get my stuff the next day. Now the razor. I am a pretty easy reviewer, starting at five stars and looking for reasons to lower the review from there. The Muhle R41 shaves great and looks really nice, too. The things I've read in previous reviews were mostly confirmed. The handle can be a bit slippery compared to more heavily knurled handles like you find on most of the Merkurs (I sometimes use their 34C). It looks nice though; better chrome than the Merkur handle (that razor does have a better finish on the head). The head on the Muhle is very nicely chromed, even underneath. I knocked the 41 down to 4 stars because the cap has some flaws. They are miniscule and I only see them under very bright light that hits them at a certain angle. They aren't chips or scratches, more like little dents in the chrome. It's like the cap was dropped on a semi-smooth, but hard surface, like the concrete floor you might find in a garage, warehouse, or factory. They are right at the edge at the peak of the cap, above the hole for the tab on side of blades. The blemishes don't seem to affect the shave at all. The razor is as aggressive as advertised, but glides nicely if you have your technique down. Zero pressure and the right angle. I get BBS shaves with zero razor burn.
