Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb

Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb My favorite razor. I shave my entire head every other day. The only thing is you have to be super careful. If you go too fast you will cut yourself. I was used to blowing through a shave in 5 minutes with a Proglide. But this definitely gives you the closest shave a any razor. Take the time and do it right.

New Muhle R41

Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb I have the old version of this razor as well as some vintage Gillettes and a Muhle 89. I bought the older version of the R41 because the 89 and other razors were not going me the close shave I wanted. However, that R41 was very difficult to use due to what I (and other gentlemen on various shaving forums and reviews) believed to be excessive blade exposure. The new (since 2013, I'm late to the party). R41 has corrected much of what we did not like, while keeping the razor aggressive enough for BBS shaves with little effort.

Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "I've heard a number of people complain about the handle. My question is why don't you change the handle D?_aa I did mine with a icon stainless steel it's a great grip. I love my R 41 it's great and deserves a great handle buy one on eBay for 21$

Great open comb!

Muhle R102 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "Despite a few mediocre reviews, I decided to take a chance on this razor. I'm glad I did. I've got a Merkur 34c and a Merkur Progress, and I was looking to try an open comb. I chose this one based on its sale price. While some say it is too aggressive, I find it to be perfect. I'm getting close, nick-free shaves with fewer passes.

Muhle R89 GRANDE Double Edge Safety Razor "A good looking Razor with a flawless finish. It is easy to hold and maneuver due to the larger handle and the three piece design makes it very easy to clean after use. But most important is the simple fact that it gives a great shave!!

Muhle R102 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "Same Razor as an R41 with a different handle. I was going to pair it with one of my stainless handles but it shaves like a dream as is. Even with the standard metal handle I used little Alum on fingers so it??s just as grippy.

Nice Progression from First DE Razor
5/3/2017
Muhle R41 Double Edge Safety Razor, Open Comb "My first DE razor was a Merkur 34C and I've shaved with it more or less daily for about 2 years. Prior to that was a Personna Twin. Both are excellent and I contend far better in every way to the plastic, expensive, drug store alternatives. I love my Merkur and have used (and reviewed here) a fairly wide swath of blades with it. But, when I travel or shave in the shower or every now and again use my Personna Twin, I get this secret knot in the pit of my stomach that tells me that I'm working too hard with my 34C and struggling to get the perfect shave that I want...so, I decided to try a "next" DE razor to see if it made a difference and I chose this one based on reviews.

It is quite noticeably different than the Merkur 34C. I think it is actually what I expected the Merkur to be like, scary and perhaps a bad idea. My first shave was a bit bloody, but more than that, I was surprised at how much my skin hurt afterward. Even though my brain said "less pressure", I think my hand thought it was still the Merkur.

But, 3 shaves later, not a scratch and no blood. I have to say that I get a MUCH closer shave with this Muhle. Now that I've adjusted to it, I see no reason not to use it as a daily shaver. It essentially what I wanted, it contrasts with the 34C and I get a closer shave with way less work and fewer passes than I had been expended. I'm glad it wasn't my first DE razor, though.

It's finished nicely and everything is good. I think that I actually like the handle and knurling on the Merkur better, but it's not important and because it's a 3 piece, I could always use a different handle if I wanted to, though I don't think I will. I'm using Astra blades which are my default, but I'll experiment a bit. The thing with this razor is that you know that there is a blade on your face, you can feel it quite clearly, which I never really did with the Merkur.

If it's what you want, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm happy and plan on sticking with it, though my Merkur isn't going anywhere and I could see some wisdom in a rotation, perhaps. Thanks WCS!
