Shaving Soap that smells like your grandfather Reviews
Great, but not for everyone
I received my Tabac quickly from West Coast Shaving, great job. I read many reviews that said the sent was a love it or hate it scenario. I don't hate it, but it took me a few shaves to decide that the lather made up for my ambivalence towards the smell. I gave it 4 stars because of the smell and they need to put the soap in a bigger container; when you try to build a lather you end up getting soap everywhere. Final thoughts, great lather, nice container but it needs more room to load up your brush, and the fragrance is over strong.
Shave soap
Very nice, clean feeling. Smells good, great lather, I will continue to purchase.
Slick lathery cleaness
I did an internet search for the manliest shaving soap available and TABAC was the #1 response. I don't know if it is the manliest and it is not close to what I was expecting or looking for but I find the scent to be mild and clean yet unobjectionable. As for performance it is by far the best I have ever used. Slick and creamy and a very rich lather with very little effort. I would buy this again as even though it's not the scent I was looking for it leaves my skin smooth and soft not all raspy. I imagine the flavor I have been seeking "gunpowder - dog breath and deisel fuel might be a bit harsh on the skin. I will be keeping this in my rotation, the bowl is a very generous offering and looks like it will last a long time.
On a 1 to 10 scale
Lather - 10

Size of bowl - 10

Smoothness of shave - 10

Scent - 10 same scent I remember from when I was a kid in the 60's
Thus is not my first purchase of TABAC soap. It's just top notch for lather and cushion. I love the scent too! WCS got right out and all came in good order. And for the money it's up at the top of my list!
Tabac shaving soap
The mug it comes with has a lid that doesn't fit and the puck is to the top of the mug, so working up a lather in the mug means cleaning up a mess later. It is very picky about how much water you use and can have "soup" drooling down your chin pretty easily. I rate it finicky. The aroma is OK, but something in it dries my face out. I dug the soap out and replaced it with a DR puck, pushed the puck down into the ribs that are molded in the mug and am a happy shaver now. I have a collection of about a half dozen soaps and creams having a lot of fun trying new things out. I rate the mug five star and the soap 2.5. I use an Edwin Jagger 89 DE razor and feather blades. Unless you really are careful cleaning your razor, you will get a buildup of soap on the blade. None of the other soaps and cremes have done that. I would say it is just because i am a newbie to wet shaving, but i have other soaps and cremes that perform much better. I figure i paid 20 bucks for a nice milk glass mug with lid.
