Eating almonds has many health benefits, but so does shaving with them! The oil is a brilliant moisturizer and absorbs quickly into the skin to feed it from within (and might even prevent acne breakouts). The scent has been used in aromatherapy for centuries. Check out Eric's curation on the many products that use almonds to scent, nourish, and hydrate.
Since the latter part of the 19th century, this Italian company has been creating a fan-favorite among traditional wet shavers. This is a very soft, “Italian-style” cream soap that is very easy and fast to load. The coconut oil- and tallow-based soap is a slick, classic addition to your den, competing head-to-head with some of the biggest artisans currently out there. Scented with sweet almond oil, you get the feeling you should be digging into some marzipan during your shave…. But we don’t recommend it. That’s a little much.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream, Almond:
Another classic, TOBS traces its origins back to 1850s London, in Jeremiah Taylor’s hairdressing salon. Over the years, the brand became associated with luxury men’s grooming and, to this day, this title holds true. I find TOBS’ rendition of the almond scent to be a bit less sweet and gourmand, but rather more “perfumey” and fragrant. While very strongly-scented, it is perfect for a smooth, calming shave at any time of the day, any time of the year. Pair that with a tried and true, classic shave cream formula that produces a voluminous, comforting lather, and you got yourself a winner.
D.R. Harris Almond Shaving Soap:
Thanks to D.R. Harris, we have the pleasure of using an authentic, 2 centuries-old British perfume and grooming house’s products that exude gentlemanly exuberance. Their shaving soaps are hailed as a one of the best of the British grooming titans, with a long-lasting formulation that provides ridiculously slick, protective, blanketing lathers in classic scents. One of the best of the best (in my opinion) is their almond scent, which is a light, natural almond supported by a slightly sweet, subtly floral undertone.
Cyril R Salter Classic Almond Shaving Cream:
Cyril R. Salter has been selling and crafting luxury men’s grooming products for over 75 years. While I do not typically aim for shaving creams as my go-to software, the Salter shaving creams have always been an exception. A clear competitor to the oft perfumey, sweet, and powdery shaving creams that are seemingly the norm, Cyril R. Salter creams are very naturally-scented and make (for me) a much more luxurious lather. Their Classic Almond shaving cream is no exception to this - scented with a natural, almond husk-like aroma. With seemingly no other added fragrances, this results in a very subtle, clean, and inviting olfactory experience throughout the shave. Counter to many other almond-centered fragrances, I find this to be more of an evening shave scent due to its natural woody quality. Similar to Taylor of Old Bond Street, Salter creams are very easy to lather and result in a thick, shiny, comforting lather.
Levels Naturals Soap Bar, Vanilla Almond + Oats:
Levels Naturals products are, without a doubt, a huge force to be reckoned with. They see the oil-stripping, skin-drying, mass-produced skin products and raise them a natural alternative; one with a mind-boggling list of skin-hydrating ingredients, organic essential oils for scent, and long-lasting use. This particular soap is scented with vanilla and almond oils, which contain stress-relieving compounds for a calming, morning shower. Added oats help to exfoliate and remove dead skin, while shea butter, cocoa butter, and botanicals such as meadowfoam oil help to hydrate and soften the skin to combat the drying, itching effect of potent surfactants.
Antica Barbieria Colla Shampoo, Almond:
While many in wet shaving get to enjoy the plethora of luxurious shaving soaps and aftershaves, artisan shaving brushes, and many more, it is not often they extend this extravagance into other areas of their grooming regimen. Well, now is your chance, and with what better grooming name than the famed Antica Barbieria Colla? Their high-ranking shaving cream and aftershave milks are acclaimed for their skin-loving properties, and their shampoo is no different. The extremely concentrated formula means that only a small amount of
