Our Favorite Things: Our Top Shaving And Grooming Picks For Travel

Here at West Coast Shaving, we love a great vacation as much as the next guy. And I'm sure it's no surprise that we like to stay well-groomed and looking our best whether we're at home with all our regular shaving gear or on the road with the bare minimum.

Don't let a fun vacation (or even a last-minute business trip!) leave you feeling frazzled and unkempt.

Be ready and stocked up on the essential shaving and men’s grooming products for travel. We've done the research for you, and we've got a lot of great travel finds.

Essential Shaving & Men’s Grooming Products for Travel

  • Dopp Kit - Having a bag handy to carry your gear is a necessary component of carefree travel. Just grab-and-go with one of our dopp kit bags.

We recommend WCS Black Dopp Kit.  This canvas and leather bag is perfect to keep it all together. Leave it stocked and ready to go, or it can flatten nicely for storing.

  • Travel Shaving Brush or Shaving Brush holder - protecting your shaving brush is vital on the road. You can buy a protective tube that will hold your favorite brush (not only will it guard the knot against friction and wear but it will also allow it to dry if you happen to have to move quickly with a damp brush). Perhaps space is an issue when you travel. Then you might want to invest in a specially designed travel shaving brush. Usually of a smaller size and with their own built-in protections, this can be a nice option for a frequent flyer.

We recommend Epsilon Travel Shaving Brush Tube. This plastic tube is a simple solution for traveling with your favorite shaving brush. Slip the shaving brush inside and the slots provide ventilation to help dry the knot if it is damp.

We recommend Parker Travel Shave Brush, Brushed Aluminum, Pure Badger. This full-size knot screws off and flips to insert into the handle. It offers a great shave from the pure badger head and great protection from the double duty aluminum tube handle/case.

  • Travel safety razor or case -  Your brush isn’t the only delicate piece of shaving equipment when you travel. You also want to keep your safety razor in tip-top shape. Like your shaving brush, you have two options: buy a case or buy a specially designed travel safety razor. Cases are usually leather and can be as simple as a sheath for the head or as elaborate as a molded form for each piece of your razor. Many are simply envelopes for your entire razor. Most of the time,  you will want to remove the blade during travel to protect the case. On the other hand, you could buy a travel safety razor which has the advantage of smaller size, portability, and built-in protection. Whatever you decide, you will be pleased to enjoy a traditional shave, even on the go.

We recommend WCS Leather Safety Razor Case. This leather holder fits most DE safety razors and protects it from bumps and bruises in your bag. Get it in brown or black.

We recommend Merkur Travel Safety Razor. When space is an issue, this closed comb safety razor from Merkur is the answer. It breaks down to store in a small leather case.

  • Travel shampoo: Ever experienced the dreaded “leak” during travel? If you hate to reach into your dopp kit or toiletry bag and discover that your shampoo has covered everything, then might we suggest a shampoo bar? Packing a shampoo bar, instead of a liquid, can eliminate many of the hassle you can experience during air travel - no leaks, no TSA restrictions, and you can still get a great smelling, moisturizing, high quality clean.

We recommend D.R. Harris Ocean Shampoo Bar. This travel-friendly shampoo bar is just what you need when you are on the move. It won’t leak in your bag! And the environmentally friendly ingredients are good for your skin and hair.

We'd love to hear from all of you! What are some of your favorite shaving and men’s grooming products you use when traveling? We would never turn down the chance to learn a new thing or two about looking our best when we're on the road.
