Valentine's Day Curation
Awe, ambivalence, abhorrence - Valentine's Day can elicit quite a range of emotions. So whether you are anticipating the day with great joy or trying to ignore the stale chocolates, overpriced flowers, and cheesy cards, you can always do it with a great shave! Check out our curated list of items to make your Valentine's Day -- or any day -- great!
Wholly Kaw Shaving Soap, Chypre Rose Concerto:
Call me a Hallmark sucker, but Valentine’s is not complete without at least a rose or two. It is a symbol of that which Valentine’s Day now represents: love. I can think of no truer rose scent than WK’s Chypre Rose Concerto: a dry, floral blend of lime, bergamot, rose, lavender, rosemary, geranium, lilac, labdanum, patchouli, oakmoss, and cedarwood. This reminds me of a a stroll through a garden, a very natural combination of green overgrowth and crisp florals.
Soap Commander Shaving Soap, Passion:
For the suave gentleman, a clean shave is an absolute must, especially when preparing for a special night out with your lady. And what better way to set up your few minutes of zen than with a slick lather scented with a spicy, smooth olfaction of teakwood, strong spice, cedar, amber, sandalwood and patchouli? Paired with the matching scented after-shave balm, you can be sure your mug will be smooth, hydrated, and healthy.
Catie’s Bubbles, Le Piment de La Vie:
Catie’s Bubbles’ Le Piment de La Vie has long been a favorite among many wet shavers. Chris’ vegan soap formula is incredibly easily to load and lather, making this perfect for the wet shaver of any experience level. Also known as LPV (the Spice of Life), this aroma is a spicy, smoky combination of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. This spicy, masculine scent is sure to bring people in for another sniff, so make sure you have the right one in close proximity.
Fine Accoutrements After Shave, American Blend:
While I’m typically quite careful with blanket statements, I don’t think I’ve heard of any woman who doesn’t love a classic barbershop scent. A favorite here at the shop is Fine Accoutrement’s “American Blend”, a take on YSL’s Rive Gauche Pour Homme, and a classic ‘barbershop’ aroma of rosemary, bergamot, star anise, coumarin, geranium, lavender, cloves, oakmoss, vetiver, guaiacwood, and patchouli. This clean, powdery, classic masculine profile is perfect for date night or all day. Splash this on and tackle this “holiday” with aplomb. Pair with the matching shaving soap for a slick, thick, comfortable lather!
Penhaligon’s Halfeti Eau de Parfum:
If you’re willing to dish out the cash, Penhaligon has crafted what I’ve found to be one of the most complex profiles I’ve come across. A blend of (get ready) bergamot, grapefruit, green notes, lavender, cardamom, cumin, nutmeg, saffron, violet, cinnamon, rose, jasmine, cypress, muguet, leather, oud, amber, resin, cedarwood, patchouli heart, tonka, vanilla, sandalwood, and musk. The resulting scent is incredibly woody, smoky, ashy, spicy, and complex, with several earthy notes combining with the floral tang of jasmine and sweet/spicy/sour saffron. This mosaic of fragrances is fit for the mature, refined, commanding presence seeking regard at a special occasion. (Pro-tip: make sure you spend as much on her as you did on your cologne.)
Chiseled Face Aftershave, Sherlock:
Chiseled Face has been a reigning artisan since 2014, concocting an easy-loading, slick and comfortable soap formula that is gentle on the skin and fabulous traditional splashes. Each of Ron’s scents is a multiplex of natural notes that combine to form a unique scent not seen anywhere else on the market. Sherlock is one of those very scents. A sultry blend of warm tobacco, toasted caramel, black pepper, moist dirt, leather, moss, mandarin, honey and rose yield an aura as mysterious and cryptic as Mr. Holmes himself. If you are looking to play hard to get, this might just be your fragrance.
Pre de Provence, No. 63 Shaving Cream:
Pre de Provence is the foreign underdog of artisans, a grooming house nestled in the French countryside and master of soapmaking.
