Rooney 'STUBBY 2' Shaving Brush, Super Badger "Let me begin by saying I have never owed a badger brush. I started my wet shaving experience with a boar brush and Cella shave soap. I love cella shave soap and have been happy with my boar brush. That being said I decided to upgrade to a badger brush and I chose the Rooney Stubby 2. Along with it a bought some poraiso shave cream. Unfortunately it has shed three hairs so far. That is why I am only giving it four stars. The shave cream deserves five stars!

Rooney 'BEEHIVE 1' Shaving Brush, Super Badger. This is my first Rooney brush. I have been using a Simpson Duke 2 and have been happy with it. The Duke 2 is a very popular brush for a reason. I just thought that at my age and stage of life I owed it to myself to try a Rooney. It is definitely a luxury and not a necessity, but the Rooney Beehive 1 is wonderful if you don't mind spending the money. I'll continue to use my Duke 2, but the Rooney Beehive 1 is better. I love it.

Rooney 'STUBBY 3' Shaving Brush, Super Badger.I have Simpson brushes, which are very fine and Kent. The Kent is a little floppy (BK8) but feels good on he face. It has to be used more with the method of painting. The Simpson brushes are great and do match their reputation. To me, having stated the above, the Rooney is in a league of its own. It has the tightest knot I have seen or felt. Very fine loft, not floppy, superb feel, holds water but releases the lather. And what amazes me, I have had 1 yes one, hair come out! Just one. But the balanced, lathering ability, and overall performance exceeds what I have read. Excellent. In this case you get what you pay for.

Rooney 'VICTORIAN' Shaving Brush, Super Badger.A little premature as I just got the brush yesterday. This is my second named Rooney brush and I have several others made by Rooney for others, all but one (a lower grade brush bought for the faux horn handle) outstanding brushes. My Rooney double band Highlander is one of those "pry it out of my cold dead fingers" personal treasures. The knot on this brush has exceptional hair, appropriate for the price. I bought it on a whim (I was looking at some Simpsons that were out of stock), and was entranced by the handle. I mug/bowl lather, and have seen taller antique shaving mugs than those in use today, and this would be perfect for one of them. The extra length and weight do raise issues of possible misuse if you are not an experienced brush user, but should offer no issues to anyone who has used a brush for a couple of years and has a sense of touch. I used it this morning to lather a puck of Kent soap in a mug (Kent relabels MWF, and the small pucks are available from them in England), and had simply the finest lather texture I have ever experienced with MWF. The handle shape is unique, plus there is the slightly different feel from the extra weight of the long handle, so ask in three months where it is in my rotation. If the long handle fits you, you will love this brush though!
