In a world of fancy $300 razors, it’s nice to know that the old faithful Merkur still delivers an exceptional shave! What a fantastic razor!
I have found this one and one other that shave well for my beard.
This has been my everyday razor for 4+ years now...since I gave up cartridge shaving.....(I also have the Futur which I just wanted to own...use it a few times a year).....this razor to me is all you need ..I set on #2 for the first pass ...#3 on the second.......great shave....well worth the money....
After extensive testing, I find myself enjoying this razor. The styling is very appealing, and the audible feedback is excellent for tracking down any leftover whiskers on the final pass. It's an aggressive shaver compared to vintage Gillette adjustable razors, and I've concluded that setting #1 is best for me across all passes and stages of blade life. I haven't loaded a Feather yet, and don't really feel the need for a sharpest-class blade in it. Perhaps a wider blade gap would be useful for heavy beard growth, but in most cases I won't be adjusting it, which somewhat degrades the value proposition for me; I'm glad to have bought it on sale. The handle gets a bit slippery, and I may try using a silicone gel pencil grip with it so I don't have to pay so much attention during maneuvers. Overall, it gives me a consistently clean shave, and the "Geiger counter" effect on my clean-ups is fun and satisfying.
Excellent razor. I have been using this adjustable DE razor for a few years and I have never had either razor burn or ingrowns. It's not cheap but you can adjust the blade angle from mild (#1) to aggressive (#5) to get the best angle for your face. Note: when you re-assemble the razor after cleaning you have to align the side with the small notch on the top piece with the triangle on the base so the adjustment knob works.
