I Love It

First, the razor has an excellent fit and finish. The nickel plating is a nice alternative to chrome. And the long handle makes it easier to shave with only the razor's weight. I can get a close shave in just one with-the-grain pass, and a baby-smooth shave if I follow that up with an against-the-grain pass.

Greg

I bought this razor on the recommendation of a friend of mine. I have no complaints with the razors I have now but I thought it would be nice to add one more to my rotation. The TTO Gillette I have now is 50 years old and needs to be adjusted and refurbished. The rest of my Gillette's are just your standard run of the mill razors from the 50's and 60's. All are in good working order. When I received the 99R, I was really impressed with the looks, heft, and feel of the razor. It went into rotation the next week. The first thing I did cut the **** out of my face. Humm....my fault. It's a new razor and I just have to make it work for me. Finally got the angle right after a couple of days and it started working ok. By 'ok' I mean I was still nicking myself and couldn't figure out why. It went out of rotation for a month, and I just started using it again. Same thing. Nicks and razor burn. Then I saw it. The butterfly doors won't stay shut. Take about three passes, the doors loosen up and the blade does what it wants. No matter how hard I tighten the knob, it will still come loose. I checked it against the Gillette TTO and noticed the the Gillette will tighten up and then will just slightly 'cam over' locking the blade in place. The Parker doesn't do that. It won't stay locked. Granted, this razor didn't cost that much, but if this is an example of modern day workmanship, I'll stick with my older razors. The Gillette TTO that needs to be adjusted, works better than the 99R. Not only is the razor out of rotation, it's also going to be out of my house. I'll give it to my friend if he wants it, or it's in the trash. Thanks for nothing, Parker!

Great razor

This is a nice, hefty razor with good looks. And it shaves well.

baby steps

getting back into shaving (wet shaving if you wish) with safety razors is for me after 20 years or so with cartridges etc. is a slow learning process. (but enjoyable). This razor for me was another step of convenience when it comes to changing blades and gave me the added comfort of knowing that my razor head won't come unscrewed and slice my face before I realize it isn't tight. A fun journey, but 1 baby step at a time. Enjoyed getting some bay rum reminded me of my first haircuts when the barbers would shave your neck with a straight razor and then splash it on before they dusted you with the brush
