  • Best selling soap from Mitchell's Wool Fat
  • Exceptional lathering and protection
  • Great for sensitive skin

It was in the early 1930's that Bradford chemist, Fred Mitchell, realized that the natural lanolin content of wool fat was keeping the hands of local sheep shearers and wood sorters exceptionally soft. That realization led him to create a soap that could be beneficial to delicate complexions and sensitive skins. Now folks around the world have come to love the gentle soap from Mitchell.

Still made to the original formula, Mitchell's has a line of soaps in a variety of ranges, but their shaving soap is getting lots of love on WCS. The lanolin keeps skin soft and protected. It whips up a great lather for lubrication and protection from the blade. Reviewers rave about the slickness and lack of razor burn. Truly a great soap for those with sensitive skin.

In keeping with the natural feel of this soap, it has little-to-no scent. Just a clean, fresh experience. As one reviewer put it, "I can't imagine what I would want from a shaving soap that I'm not getting in spades from Mitchel's Fat Wool." Try this puck in a favorite bowl or get this soap in a ceramic bowl from Mitchell's.

Mitchells Wool Fat

Bought this shave soap for my husband and he loves it. He gets an non-drying, non-irritating shave and I get a great smelling husband! West Coast shaving was prompt with shipment (that's saying a lot considering the shipping delays with other companies). This shave soap is a keeper!

I love this soap.

This soap provides an excellent shave. I start with shaving oil and use a Parker adjustable razor. It lathers up nicely without difficulty, and gives a good glide for the blade. Great stuff.

Great lather, thirsty puck

I’ve been shaving with soaps for years, trying many different brands. I think the Mitchell’s is my go-to now. Nice light scent, good lather and slickness. As mentioned in earlier reviews, it is a thirsty soap. Easy enough to add a little bit of water onto the puck if it’s not yet lathering sufficiently. Also the refills are a great, lower cost way to purchase if you’ve already got a bowl to work out of. Will definitely buy again.

Didn't work for me!

I had heard a lot about this particular soap from a lot of YouTubers, so I decided to take the plunge. It has a nice clean smell which is very reminiscent of a body soap bar from my childhood. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I have to say about this soap. I, in particular, have had a very hard time lathering up this soap. I usually face lather and add in small amounts of water in increments so that I don't drown out the soap. I get voluminous amounts of lather at first but can tell that the quality isn't good (either flaky or with massive bubbles). The cushion it provides isn't good either. Overall, terrible performance. Tbh, I have hard water where I live, and I've heard that it makes a world of difference to the performance of this soap. That being said, there are a ton of really good and reasonably priced artisan soaps out there that perform like champs irrespective of the water hardness. Until there comes a time that I move to a place with soft water, this soap is going to the back of my soap shelf to collect dust.

Wasn't great for me.

My first impression of this soap upon opening the package was, "Mmm, I love this clean scent." Yes, it does smell like a run-of-the-mill soap, but that isn't a bad thing. A lot of people, including me, wear cologne to work, and I like the fact that the scent of this soap doesn't clash with any colognes that I own. My main issue with this soap like a lot of y'all out there is that I can't manage to get a decent lather. I have hard water where I live, and yes, I know that plays a major role in being able to get a voluminous lather, but that hasn't affected any of the other artisan soaps I have like B&M and Stirling. It lathered up well at first, but it just fell flat within seconds of transferring it to my face. I also tried face-lathering but had the same issue. It did provide a degree of slickness, which allowed me to get a decent enough shave, but it was nothing to rave about. I've NOT completely given up on this soap just yet and will give it a second shot when I travel to a place with soft water to see if all the hype is true. I will post an update if that turns out to be the case.
