Muhle R89 GRANDE Double Edge Safety Razor

17 Reviews

Life isn't too complicated, and that's just the way we like it. You have work, family and friends, hobbies, and your annual vacation. Things are good. The only real issue that you have is shaving. You hate it. To be honest, most people do, at least until they start shaving the right way. Yes, there is a right and a wrong way to shave. If you are using low quality razors that hurt your face and take forever to remove your facial hair, you are doing it wrong. It's time to talk with Mr. Peabody and head into the Way Back Machine. It's time to start shaving' old school, just as your granddad used to do.

How is that possible? Easy, at least when you are using the Muhle R89 GRANDE Double Edge Safety Razor. Good razors really do make all the difference in the world. This piece looks great when you set it on your bathroom counter, and it works like a dream to clear that hair from your face in no time. The GRANDE is different from the other R89 in the fact that it has a longer and wider handle. It will work with the RHM SR safety razor stand, as well.

Length: 4.2 inches

Excellent Razor

A good looking Razor with a flawless finish. It is easy to hold and maneuver due to the larger handle and the three piece design makes it very easy to clean after use. But most important is the simple fact that it gives a great shave!!

First time using a DE in probably 52 years and un-nicked

I moved to this from decades of a Trac II and a succession of cheapo multi-blade razors when Trac II blades got hard to find and pricey. I compared a lot of DE razors online, got it down to this or a similar, long-handled Jagger, and went with this (handle was a shade longer). It's great, and I've yet to nick myself (I hope I didn't just jinx it and bring on a Sweeney Todd extravaganza). It came with a Muhle blade, which so far has given me four double-pass shaves on three-day beards (cheeks and neck; I have a full beard) with decent results (the hairs on the side/hollow of my Adams apple remain a challenge and get a third pass). A little pricey, but I expect it'll last me a long time. Thanks to WCS for advice.

Muhle R89 Grande

This is my first DE razor. I switched from a canned shaving cream to Cremo and it made a huge difference with my cartridge razor, so I wanted to try a DE razor. I wanted a longer and thicker handle on the razor, and the R89 Grande was the only one with both factors. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I am glad I purchased it. I also ordered the sample blade pack and I am now trying out all of those to find the one I like best, now leaning towards Astra. The shave I get is incredible and I would never go back to cartridges. I have been using the razor only about 2 weeks, and the shave is much closer and better with less irritation than the Schick Hydro 5 that I was using. I would still choose this razor again and would recommend it to anyone.

Great Razor

I've been wet shaving since I started shaving at 17. Shaving was mandatory at Parris Island, need it or not. I am however new to using a DE razor at 52 years old. Better late than never. I can't compare this razor to others but I love it. I've tried a few different blades in it but my favorite so far is the Gillette Silver Blue. Also using Mitchell's Wool Fat soap. What a great combination. I get great close shaves and have only experienced a few weepers while trying Feather blades. I would highly recommend this razor to anyone from beginner to old pro.
