In 2015, Shane Swartzlander and his wife, Merissa Hawkins formed Blackland with a desire to blur the lines between art and function. They were inspired by the high-end watch industry. While you might be able to purchase a cheap timepiece that can tell you the time, but that isn’t the only consideration when buying a watch. A fine watch tells a story – of quality, durability, and design. The Blackland razors take the same approach.
The Vector Razor is turning the single blade, "artist club" style razors market on its head. The advantage of a long cutting edge that removes swathes of hair in a single pass is often outweighed (literally) by the weight on the head. Blackland has solved this problem modifying the threaded post to allow the artist club blade to slide over it, keeping the head as small as possible. While current razors in this category tend to be bulky and hefty, this razor is a feather weight by comparison - almost two-thirds lighter and half as wide. And it is balanced perfectly over the handle rather than being front-heavy.
The razor handle is finished with a machine finish, which means you get the markings created during the machining process. This gives the product an unfinished feel, that tells the story of the journey from raw material to marvelous razor.
