Parker Variant Adjustable Razor, Satin Chrome

19 reviews
  • adjustable double edge safety razor
  • 2-piece, chrome-plated
  • knob on handle allows you to change from mild to aggressive

Released to rave reviews, this Parker Variant Adjustable Safety Razor might be your new favorite, too. For over forty years, Parker has been crafting razors and wet shaving accessories with an eye toward quality and a commitment to customer satisfaction. To that end, they have an extensive line of safety razors to meet or exceed your expectations. But this adjustable option might just meet all your hopes and dreams in one gleaming package.

All brass-construction with chrome-plating gives this utensil a nice weight. The 3.5 inch handle is a nice length with a great non-slip knurling. (Slippery-handed shavers rejoice!). The two-piece design allows for easy blade changes. Just ensure that you match the mark on the cover and the base plate so that the adjustment part of the razor is calibrated correctly. Be sure not to over-tighten!

And speaking of adjustment- this wonderful tool allows you to "dial in" the perfect shave. The knob on the bottom of the handle can be turned to adjust the spacing on the blade for a mild to aggressive shave. 1 is the mildest setting while 5 gives you an aggressive option. It is always best to start on the mildest setting and move up from there as you get used to the razor. Great for beginners to experts alike. You can accommodate all kinds of differences from facial hair thickness to skin sensitivity to experience level. This razor comes in this stunning satin chrome or elegant black.

Very nice razor

I have only used a Merkur 34C and random straight razor previously. I loved the 34C and honestly saw no reason to try anything else. I recently watched saw shave channel reviews of adjustables and considered two; the Merkur Progress and the Parker Variant. I leaned heavily toward the Progress initially due to brand loyalty. But after researching the two further, I decided to try the Variant strictly due to the knurled handle and the assumed better wet handling grip. The Parker Variant has been a superb buy to date. I love the overall feel of the thing; the weight, the balance. It goes right to “zero” every time. I always had to fuss with my 34C to get the blade to align properly. Not the case so far with the Variant; nice and even. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Parker Variant

When I received this razor I was immediately impressed with the construction and heft of the razor I was even more impressed after using it for the first time. I very much enjoyed the ability to literally dial the shave I desired..

The only razor I need!

My go to razor has been a Muhle R41 and, as a daily shaver, one pass is sufficient. On those special occasions when a closer shave is desired, I have been using less aggressive razors for subsequent passes. Yet, of the several less aggressive razors used, I could never find one that was just right. Since my beard is coarser and thicker on different parts of my face and throat, I found that three levels of aggressiveness are required to obtain the BBS result. I really don't have the space on the bathroom vanity for three razors. Longer story shortened, the Parker Variant solved the problem. With infinite adjustment between the 1 and 5 settings, it is always possible to find the setting that is just right. My only regret is that I did not buy one sooner! It would have saved me money and spared me the frustration of searching for the perfect razor. So, do yourself a favor and spring for the extra cost of a Parker Variant. It's worth it and you deserve it! IMHO, there is not a better razor to be found.

Excellent Razor

Excellent Razor. Love the adjustability. I like being able to adjust it a bit more aggressive for a post-weekend shave and a regular morning shave. Works really well. Great razor. Looks good. Its closed comb. If you want even more adjustability at a similar price point your could try the Vikings Blade Emperor razor since that is open comb on one side and closed on the other side. The downside of that is that the adjustment is near the head so you can cut your hand adjusting it like with the Merkur. I also didn't want an open comb. There are a number of reviews about people having received defective Parker Variants. It is my understanding that there was one bad batch which led to a number of bad reviews. The ones being sold now are all fine. Mine was perfect. Buy from WCS and they will take care of you anyway. I think this is better, though not as hyped as the Model-T. Unless you want to step up to a Rex Supply Ambassador, this is about as good as you can get at a really great price.
