I like the brush very much, and the handle is a perfect for my hands. My only issue is that the bristles splay quite widely which makes it very difficult to apply lather precisely particularly around the upper lip, chin, and ears. I also shave my head, so it’s my go to for the wide open expanses of my scalp where precise application of lather matter not a whit. I would have chosen a smaller brush had I been buying it in store. This is why I limit my internet shopping!
Hand me down....
I was given this 59 as a first brush by my dad... He has had it for a while and passed it to me as I have just switched to DE shaving... Without anything to compare it to I will say I do love it. It is soft yet it is firm enough that lather builds easily/quickly and exfoliates my skin... Couple it with a quality non-alcohol based after balm and your face will thank you! Be sure to educate yourself on brush care... This will fit in your hands well and last for years!
The Fifty Series has perhaps the most comfortable and versatile of all of Simpson brushes. The 59 is the largest model with a handle that works really well for average sized hands, and will likely be a dream for those with large hands. Unlike most large handled brushes, the knot is not a mass of badger hair that splays from your ear to nose. Rather, it's a manageable 25 mm of hybrid fan shaped Best badger hair that nicely balances density with loft. This produces rich lather that does not get stuck inside the knot. Highly recommended!
