Lucky to get a fancy one as my first straight razor

Received an antique straight razor from The J.R. Torrey Razor Co. Worcester, Mass. This razor has a faux Ivory handle carved to resemble bamboo. I ordered two on same day to begin my straight razor shaving journey; one random vintage (this listing) and one other specific listing at fifty more. So my impression is that this looks great, is on heavy side to handle. Being first time straight razor user, I am extremely careful with this. With just one shave so far with each razor, I prefer my other razor (C. V. Heljestrand) as a beginner, but see myself using this once I get confidence in straight shaving. Good buy, overall!

Good Value, But With A Small Asterisk

Pros Order Fulfillment was quick, even with the free shipping (ordered Sun, delivered Wed). Good price for a quality razor Hone was well done, shave ready Fun to research the blade from its etchings (I received a Union Cutlery "Spike", manufactured about 5 hours from where I live) Cons The blade allegedly is 9/16, although it appears more narrow, while the grind is between a 1/4 and 1/2 grind (making for a less forgiving blade) Scales are a bit flimsy plastic, not sure if they are original or replacement (has a little wear, so it may be original or replaced by previous owner) No information was given on the blade, luckily it still had its etchings hat I could use to research

    Good option

I know a lot of people would hesitate to buy a vintage razor, but the one I received was great and ready to shave with.

    Great for starting out

I recived a F. H. Schwan razor with a 23 stamped into the blade. I give this razor 3 stars for the following, 1 star off for the scales being warped, not so bad that the razor is not useable and was easily fiwed with some gentle heat popcicle sticks and rubber bands but as it was "restored" I would have figured this to be done already. The 2nd star off due to the toe and heel of the blade being rounded, at some time in this razors life it was not properly honed and the straight edge is rounded at both ends. For the price this razor is functional and worth it for someone who is looking for a lower price item to start with before dropping a large amount of money on a higher quality razor. And since these are all completly random someone else may get a much better razor, who knows I may even grab another one one day to see what I get.
