Greg Smith is the artisan behind Central Texas soaps. He started making soaps out of necessity to find a better soap that would not lead to a rash or irritation due to his eczema. After experimenting with the process he found that he really enjoyed making the soap and using it. He soon opened up an etsy shop so that his friends and family could try his soaps and ditch the “Big Box’ Soaps.

With the resurgence of traditional shaving, more and more men and women are ditching the canned shaving goop for the beneficial alternatives. Central Texas Soaps decided to throw their hat into the ring and provide a great shaving soap. It gives great slickness and cushion with shea butter, castor oil, and coconut oil as well as the addition of bentonite clay. With the ample tub, you can load your brush right on the puck. Don't be afraid of water as you lather this shaving soap.

  • Camp Out: Evocative of a spring camping trip. Inhale the crisp morning air as you step out of the tent. Notes of cedar and pine bring to mind the surrounding woods. Orange, ozone, and jasmine scent the fresh air around you.
  • Cherry Pipe: Settle into your porch chair at the end of a long day and light up your pipe. This scent will have you wrapped in warm sweet cherry tobacco, vanilla, and rum.
  • Citrus Burst: Does your morning need a pick-me-up? Do you need something to pop your eyes open in the AM? Then this might be the soap for you. Notes of orange & pineapple with warm vanilla combine in this sweet citrus aroma. And just a hint of zesty lime adds to the bright fragrance.
  • Down at the River: A cane pole, a fishing hole, a summer afternoon. Take a walk Down the River with Central Texas Soaps. This fougere (a perfume classification for a green, fern-like scent) has notes of ozone, water, and a hint of dirt.
  • Grandpa’s Barbershop: This nostalgic scent might bring to mind an old-fashioned, main street barbershop. Bergamot, basil leaf, oakmoss, and a hint of patchouli bring this classic aroma to life.
  • Hill Country Dew: Since ya’ll loved Mr. Pepper so much, Central Texas is back with another soda inspired scent. Yep, notes of lemon & lime with a popping effervescence will take you back to high school pizza parties.
  • Irish Flats: So named as a nod to its inspiration scent, Irish Tweed, this aroma also gives a tip of the hat to an Irish neighborhood near the Alamo in central Texas. It is a sweet-spicy blend of verbena and lemon with iris and violet leaf. This is laid on a base of sandalwood and ambergris.
  • Padre Island: When the central Texas sun beats down unrelentingly, head to the coast. . . Padre Island to be more specific. Whip up this lather with notes of citrus, sand, and ocean mist and it is almost like being there.
  •  Sandalwood: This ubiquitous note is combined beautifully with amber and musk to create something more memorable than a one note scent. Enjoy this full, deep aroma.
  • Summer Brew: Does beer make everything better? Well, maybe not everything, but it does show some magical qualities in this shaving soap. Amino acids are great for your skin. And the scent of bright citrus with a light nuttiness that brings out the yeasty characteristics of a dark beer are spot on.
  • The Saw: Here’s the scent to whip up on a cool fall evening as the sun drops early and the ghoul comes out to play. A quirker scent of metallic notes, damp wood, and smoke make for the perfect horror story aroma.
  • Tobacco & Amber: This warm blend of honey, tobacco, and amber is rich and deep. Add a hint of spice and citrus and this is a crowd pleaser for men and women alike.
  • Weekend Rodeo: This fragrance evokes the downhome aroma of a traveling rodeo. Notes of tanned leather from chaps and saddles with pungent tobacco from tin of chew combine with a sweet hint of honey and tonka bean. Wrangle up some of this lather today.

Good Shaving Soap

This Grandpa's Barber Shop is good shaving soap at a good price. The lather is not quite as thick as I prefer but is pleasant. The lubricity is good. The scent is mild, pleasant and not overpowering. This is a good product.

I have a lot of barbershop soaps, so it seemed logical to try it. It gives a very good shave. Nice scent. But Stirling Barnershop is still my pick. But this is really good soap. You can’t beat the low price!

In a world of many shave creams with sporty scents and promises of quick shaves, this shave soap definitely dials it back to simpler times. The scent is comforting and the lather is rich without much effort. The protection the lather provides is wonderful. I just purchased the Grandpa’s Barbershop aftershave which I am very hopeful will compliment the awesome shave the soap provides!
