A Fine Luxury

I had used this soap in the early days of my wet shaving rebirth from a refill puck. All those years ago, I was at first, put off by the woody fragrance. I relegated it to an autumnal soap. Then I paired it with Pre de Provence aftershave balm and it grew on me. I used it until it was used up. Over time I missed the sharp scent. With more disposable income my pining turned to desire. I was not fazed by the price since I knew the quality of the soap and would not be surprised by the resilience. I looked forward to the aluminum soap dish although I was mildly concerned with denting, thinking thin aluminum. All of my fears were allayed by the sheer heft of the package. As I carefully uncovered each layer my excitement grew. What finally emerged from the box, from under the tissue was a sight to behold! The heaviness of the dish astounded me. The contents of the dish welcomed me with familiarity. I held joy and pleasure in my hands. It will be a true delight to use this soap. My plan is to break in a new brush which I have yet to select...perhaps a restored Rubberset 400 with its bright aluminum handle. Thanks, WCS for making my Father's Day a celebration.

A lovely shaving soap

I am please with the product. For me it is an affordable luxury so I won't complain of the high price for the good. My only disappointment was that product was not in when I wanted to order but that was mitigated by follow-up WCS did in tracking my desire and notifying me when it was in stock.

This is a nice soap dish

I'm only going to talk about the soap dish, because I figure that is the main reason you are here. It is machined very well, and feels quite solid. The design and tight tolerances seem to actually push excess air out and create a little vacuum inside where the puck lives. When you remove the lid from the base you can actually feel a slight resistance because of this little "vacuum". When you put the lid on, it takes maybe an extra half a second to completely close because its pressing the extra air out. It's a neat little effect that makes me smile. Now, concerning the companies design on the top, don't expect it to look white like in this picture (or at least mine doesn't). It is a black reflective substance that is slightly raised from the metal. Now maybe if you pointed a giant camera flash at the thing you would get this effect of "white lettering", but it is quite dark in person. From a few feet away, I can't even see the lettering in my bathroom. Its a cool effect, its just very low key. If you seen pictures of the No. 88 travel size dish it looks just like that. Its possible that they changed the original design, but that is just a guess. So, is this dish worth the price? Honestly that is something only you can answer. I will say that I have never seen anything else quite like it. Additionally, nothing about it feels cheap to me. I expect it could probably outlive me.
