Grooming Dept Shaving Soap, Mallard Fougere

1 review
Sold out
  • Traditional, lathering shave soap
  • Duck Fat base
  • Notes of classic fougere with a twist of amber

This Northern California artisan, Mohammad, started Grooming Dept in 2017. With formulations that include duck fat, donkey milk, and lamb & beef tallow, as well as a vegan base, he is turning heads. Check out some of his offerings and phenomenal scents.

If you want to experiment with a slick soap, then this is the base for you! With a base of duck fat and a plethora of oil/butter/extracts, this is one to write home about. This is a thirsty soap but add the water slowly as your lather will get slicker with more hydration. PRO TIP: And don’t bloom the soap.

A fougere is a traditional perfume classification for green, fern-like scents. They usually include top notes of sweet floral - lavender and geranium  - and a woody base of oakmoss and hay-like coumarin. This fougere also includes a twist of amber.

A superb soap

This was my introduction to Grooming Department, because as you know, it's out of stock most of the time. I couldn't be more impressed with the duck fat soap base (which is also a first for me). I typically gravitate toward tallow based soaps, and have a few vegan soaps (Wickham soaps, 1912....great stuff). I see what all the rave is about regarding Grooming Department soaps: a really nice soft soap, lathers effortlessly, great cushion and glide, and the slickness and post shave is stellar. While I have numerous soaps, like many of us, perhaps too many, GD ranks right up there for me with others like, Australian Private Reserve, Crown and Crane, Eufros, Mikes, Mickey Lee, Wholly Kaw, Noble Otter, B &M, A & E, The Sudsy Soapery (tallow and vegan), and Declaration Grooming, to name some of my favorites. I look forward to trying other GD soap bases, too. As always, I receive excellent service and super fast shipping from the wonderful folks at WCS.
