Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Safety Razor

One of our most popular items, the Merkur 34 C Heavy Duty Safety Razor is a chrome finished 2-piece DE razor. The comfortable handle is approximately 3" long and is designed with a thicker grip with non-slip knurling. It's shorter than something like a Fusion, but the shorter length actually makes it more maneuverable and is typical of the old Gillettes. One of the most well known wet shaving products on the market.

Due to the popularity, this item has taken on a number of names over the years such as Merkur HD, Merkur Heavy Duty, or 34C and combinations of all of those names as well. It's all the same product and it's remained unchanged since we've carried it.

It is average on the aggressiveness scale and, therefore, a continual first choice for new wet shavers. At the same time, it's not too mild so experienced classic shaving fans love it as well. You could buy this and be set for life...and even pass it along to your grandson. Just make sure to clean it per manufacturer recommendations and it will last for decades.

This razor uses all standard double edge blades for a close and comfortable shave and features a 2-piece design. Replacement blades are available.

Hard to beat!

Great shave everytime! This was my 2nd safety razor. My 1st was a 78L WCS razor. Night and day difference. I would rate it mild/aggressive. The blade angle is very easy to find.

Classic for a reason

I feel very sorry for those who bought this razor but didn't learn how to use it. The "HD" is a perennial favourite because it does everything it's supposed to extremely well. The size, weight, balance and grip are perfect. The blade gap is conservative but effective and while I prefer a razor which holds the blade more stiffly, it does not make much practical difference to the shave. I cannot understand why Merkur don't release a steel version of this: it would sell out within minutes. I have owned many razors, from century-old Gilettes to the modern super-premium pieces which are our great privilege to be able to buy. The best razor ever made is, I believe, The Feather AS-D2. The HD is a close second.

It Works!!

Received this razor but had problems. When I went to open the top to insert a blade I could not get the barrel reconnected to the bar. Alexis, at Customer Service, was extremely helpful but with no luck. WCS offered to send a replacement razor but I turned down their offer thinking i would still have that problem throwing the razor in the recylce bin. I am 70 so I am used to the old Gillette (DE-TTO) style razor. However WCS still sent me a replacement. I was reluctant to try and put a blade in it. After 3 days I finally did so and tried the razor. WOW, what a shave. The Merkur 34C is by far hands down better than my Gillette Fat Boy and Gillette Red Tip. A great razor and great customer service. Will continue to do business with WCS.

Merkur 34C

Much better than 1st safety razor (made in England) It had 3 part assembly and was hard to replace blade and it finally broke. Merkur has better balance and weight and is easier to maneuver. OUTSTANDING!
