Close as you like!
Was using a Merkur 23C from WCS (safety-bar style.) Very high quality, but not quite as close a shave as I wished. Considered the Merkur 25C, another all-metal, knurled-gripped beauty, said to be a little more aggressive. Tempting! Then saw the Merkur 45, a travel model, quite unlike the first two. I justified my purchase by saying, "I need a travel razor." But now it's my daily razor---It's that comfortable. And close! Not metal, but Merkur quality!
perfect size and weight
needed a travel shaver and was faced with going back to the old multi- blades, but found this , the only thing that would be better would be this in a premade kit with all your basic shaving needs for the road
Great razor, doesn't clog
I bought this razor for backpacking and I now use it in place of the straight razor I'd been using. Normally I can't use a safety razor because my coarse hair gets stuck in the blade, but the opening in this razor is wide enough that all the hair is easily cleaned out with water. It's very aggressive, but it seems a little easier to use than the straight blade.
I own this and the Merkur 30c, I find this razor provides a much closer shave than the 30c and other metal razors I've used in the past. It is made of a heavy duty plastic, so it's a lighter razor than what you might be use to. However don't let the light weight deceive you into pressing down too hard, this baby provides a pretty aggressive shave considering its weight. I really like it's performance and the unique design, it's also pretty easy to clean and maintain if you have hard water.
