Dennis and his family are the hands behind Spearhead Shaving. As a wet shaving hobbyist and blogger before he ventured into the business, Dennis knows the importance of quality and honesty. He is producing products he can stand behind.

This after shave toner has no alcohol to create a sting as you splash it on. Instead it contains witch hazel and aloe to soothe and tone. Glycerin also adds hydration to your just-shaved skin.

This Heather Spearhead Shaving After Shave Toner is scented with an homage to a 1930s brand by Alfred McKelvy called Seaforth!. This brand introduced a generation of wet shavers to its unique packaging and “spiced light. . . spiced right” catch phrase. Dennis has teamed up with Shawn from Chatillon Lux to create just the right aroma with this Seaforth! Heather fragrance. It is a classic fougères aroma with notes of crisp, green clary sage (instead of heavy oakmoss) and clean lavender and geranium with a hint of bergamot. This fruity-green scent is refreshing!

Changed my mind

I wrote an initial review of this product that was lukewarm, and have changed my mind. Originally, I was thinking of this primarily as an aftershave, whereas I now see it as a kind of very-liquid balm, something to put on right after shaving and before applying something more bracing. As such, it works very well: it feels good going on, smells good and comes at a very good price. Therefore, I'm recommending it------it's a good substitute for a more expensive balm. ps. For anybody old enough to remember the original Seaforth scents----well, this is something else. You can't bring back the past, and maybe we shouldn't even try. Seaforth was a big brand in the 1940s-50s, and held on until the 1960s, but has been gone at least fifty years. This product is very nice, and priced well within the means of most of us, so it gets my enthusiastic vote.

Seaforth After Shave Toner, Heather by Spearhead Shaving

It must be said that the scent of this Spearhead product bears no resemblance at all to its vintage namesake. The McKelvey Seaforth brand completely charmed me more than a decade ago, when I began rampaging through every antique shop/show in range, scouring local estate sales and storming the online auctions to build my collection, which includes several NOS examples of Heather 'n' Fern, Scottish Heather, and the latterly-branded just plain Heather products. They were loaded with coumarin, mainlining the fresh-cut hay/alfalfa scent of a barnyard, with a mossy base and nice menthol cooling. Spearhead left all that behind, along with the alcohol. They turned from the Scottish croft to the highland meadow, giving us an aftershave milk with spiky lavender and sage herbs on a floral background. It's a total re-imagining rather than an homage. Now that I've got that off my chest, I'll say it's pretty nice. Clean and green, it feeds the skin comfortably and the fragrance really lasts.

Gentlemen

The performance is as good as the soap and that is no small task. The soap is amazing. The aftershave is nourishing and not bracing, not tacky or oily, and dries smooth. The scent strength and staying power are very good. It does take some dry down time the for the scent to match the soap. You need both. Shawn at Chatillon Lux nailed the scent.
