In 1919, Alexander Simpson began turning out shaving brushes on the East End of London. Despite wartime destruction and moves, the Simpson name continued. Today they are one of the foremost leaders in shaving brush creation. The company continues the tradition of making the finest shaving brush by hand using age old techniques. Try their Simpson Colonel X2L Best Badger Shaving Brush (X2L).

Simpson brushes come in a large variety of sizes and hair grades. You are sure to find one to love. The Colonel is a military brush, turned in just one size. The handle is a faux ivory, very classic with a comfortable feel. It is easy to keep your grip in wet environments. It is stamped with the iconic Simpson brand.

The Colonel X2L has a short loft that excels with soaps. The hand tied knot is filled with Simpson Best badger hair. Best badger is an excellent choice for those who love badger but not the price tag. You get all the benefits of badger - excellent water absorption, soft strands, etc. but without the premium price. These strands are middle of the line and are distinguishable by their creamy tips.

BEST best badger

This was my first brush. As such, I didn't know how good it was. I bought the tiny Simpsons Wee Scot 2, which was TOO SMALL. I bought a Simpsons Chubby 2 in Best, which was TOO BIG. I got an antique Erskine T-500 travel brush, which was okay but nothing special, and a RV Shaving Badger & Blade 2011 special limited edition in Super badger. Of them, the Simpsons Colonel X2L and the B&B 2011 are the best. I take them in turns. But since the B&B 2011 was a limited edition of 75 brushes, you'll just have to go with the Colonel X2L. It's my go-to brush, anyway.

Very Nice Brush

This is my first Simpson and it won't be my last. Handle has a nice, heavy feel and is easy to hold. Lathers soaps and creams equally well, face or bowl. Very nice brush for the price.

Great Brush!

When I initially started wet shaving, I had a cheap Art of Shaving badger brush found in one of their sample packs. I thought it would do the job for a long time, but after losing some badger hairs from just rinsing it with water. It was time to get serious. After doing some initial research with Omega and Edwin Jagger, which are great brushes as well, I decided to go with Simpson. I narrowed it down between the Commodore X2 and the Colonel. A quick and very helpful chat with Eric. Even though the knot and brush measurements were the same, I decided to go with the Colonel because the handle was a bit taller and thinner. Upon receiving the brush I was amazed at its tight knot and how soft it was. It's a great brush and if I ever need another one, I wouldn't hesitate with a Simpson. Do yourself a favor and get one!
