Haslinger Aloe Vera Shaving Soap.Great product that produces a fantastic lather. It's the first soap I've been able to do an ATG pass on the neck completely irritation free. It also doesn't irritate the face during longer shaves while learning to use the straight razor.
Tabula Rasa Light Cream Shaving Soap. Most overrated product on the market. Lathers nicely but tub is 50% air and won't last more than 10 days. Based on its mid range price tag it is a huge waste of money. Won't see the light on day in my house again.
Chiseled Face Shaving Soap, Ghost Town Barber, 4oz.Purchased this on a whim, very good move on my part. This is an excellent shaving soap.
Chiseled Face Shaving Soap, Summer Storm, 4oz.Ordered this on whim from WCS. I was a bit shocked when I first opened the container. It does not look like traditional shaving soap. It has the texture and look of a sponge. This soap does not lather up like my D.R. Harris or TOBS, but the lather it makes is very rich and thick. VERY smooth shaving soap that has a unique fragrance that grows on you. This is a really good soap and I think I will try some of the other variants of the Chiseled Face family. Also this soap is made in the USA!
Haslinger Honey Shaving Soap in Bowl. The soap is great, always have loved it. However the "bowl" is a complete joke. Save yourself the money and get the soap alone. If not for the bowl the soap is 5 star.
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap Refill.Having tried several others, I find it is long lasting. It lathers quickly and responds well to water and brush. It will eventually dry but generally it stands up well and lubricates very well. I have yet to find something that compares to it, having been somewhat disappointed with other soaps I'm not actively searching for something better. I think I have found it.
#17 Rum Runner Shaving Soap I gave a review yesterday and it was not listed so I will try again. The soap was terrific, latherd very well and smelled real good. The problem was the shipping. Took 6 days from MD. To Tenn. 850 miles. The package was picked up Friday, did not travel until Monday, ordered on Thursday. Shipping used to be real quick.
#8 Silk Road Shaving Soap I had been intrigued by "wet shaving" since I saw my father and grandfather do it when I was younger. I shopped around the internet, compared sights to include reviews; West Coast Shaving edged out the other sites, so I decided to give them a try. I decided on #8 Silk Road Shaving Soap based on 2 factors; the ingredients and reviews. I am enjoying my lick and look forward to sampling other soaps and products. Thank you.
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap with Ceramic Bowl. This is the 2nd shaving lubricant I have ever used. Before this, I would use normal shaving gel such as Edge or Gillette gel. You know, the blue stuff. Anyway, after getting a good brush and using warm water, this stuff is a pleasure to apply and use. I have VERY sensitive skin right below my jaw line and a few places on my face I always manage to nick. Well, MWF solved all my problems. I have no bumps or redness unless from razor/user error. Smell is pleasant and not overbearing. The bowl is great. This is just a really good product. I have no complaints and will use MWF as long as they keep making it.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Soap in Bowl, Sandalwood. This is a REVIEW OF THE SOAP AND DISH COMBINATION - not just the soap. The sandalwood soap scent is very subtle yet meditatively soothing. Lathering is a piece of cake, and it provides excellent lubrication that does not readily dry when on the face. As a sensitive skin shaver, I have had nothing but excellent results with this soap and will buy it again. 5 STARS FOR THE SOAP. However, at an additional $17 over the soap alone, the bowl is money wasted (in my humble opinion). When new the soap puck is flush with the bowl lip, requiring either face or hand lathering. I prefer to bowl later right on my soap puck and although it is a beautiful bowl, it's just too messy and needs an additional 3/4" of depth, at a minimum. I just use the soap in a ceramic bowl. So 3 STARS FOR THE BOWL because it is beautiful and woks as a good storage container (relatively air tight) but is too shallow for bowl lathering (the image of the product is spot-on in terms of depth).
Speick Shaving Soap Stick.I took the shave stick and tried to rub the wet brush onto it and then put the lather into a bowl. No directions on the box. No directions in the WCS shaving description. No directions in the comments, below. I thought I would give this silly item a bad review. But, I finally found a demo on youtube and it is a bit of fun! Just wet it and rub it on your face, then take a wet brush and the lather just appears out of nowhere. It's like magic.
Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge Shaving Soap Refill, 90g.Often lost in the shuffle of great English shave soaps, Czech & Speake are some of the finest shave soaps made today. The lavender mint scent of Oxford & Cambridge is highly refined and the soap delivers rich, slick lathers that make traditional wet shaving a joy.
Stirling Soap Company Shave Soap, Executive Man Having beautiful shaves with Stirling!
Provence Sante Green Tea Shaving Soap Refill. This soap puck creates a rich cream, extra slick--IMHO--lather, regardless of which brush I use. The scent is also nice. Other DE wet shavers on Badger & Blade's web site also echoed my favorable comments in my posting regarding this soap.
Edwin Jagger 99.9% Natural Shaving Soap in Tub, Limes & Pomegranate "Like all Edwin Jagger shaving products, they never seem to disappoint. This product offers all of the things you expect from a good quality shaving soap; good lather and great protection and lubrication. But what sets this soap apart from others is its aroma. An alluring sent that is in my opinion absolutely fantastic.
Fine Classic Shaving Soap, American Blend. This is absolutely a great soap! It lathers easily and offers superior slickness and very good cushion. A soap very similar in performance to Tabac. And the scent explodes when making lather! While scent isn't exactly like the aftershave, its very close. As someone else has stated, the scent is what Bought a puck for a friend and he loves it! One of my favorites now too, and I've had over 30 different soaps and creams. Congratulations to FINE for creating a classic masterpiece!
Stirling Soap Company Shave Soap, Sharp Dressed Man Easy to lather; has a good cushion; and it's slick. One thing that bothered me was its initial smell. It smelled a bit like a dead animal. I tried leaving the lid open overnight and that seemed to have gotten rid of the smell. Otherwise, a good soap!
Palmolive for Men Classic Shaving Soap Stick. An all around solid stick that provides a solid shave. I like the scent which has a nice, clean smell to it. As long as you get the right amount of water, it lathers up well and is slick enough for me and my old Gillette. I like the Wilkinson stick better but this is a close second.
Proraso Shaving Cream Soap, Menthol and Eucalyptus, 150g Tub Lightly scented and pleasant, but the lather is not as rich and creamy as I would like. Nevertheless, it is fine for everyday, and is appropriately priced for that use. Every so often, I like to treat myself to a heavier scented, tsunami of lather and foam for a while using a different product. But after the storm, I return to this Proraso product.
Col Conk Shaving Soap, Almond Small 2.25 oz.This is the first Col. Conk soap I've tried. The smell is great, though being almond, it does smell more like a food than a shaving soap. It lathers well and provides pretty good cushion and glide. It's not my favorite soap but it stays in the regular rotation. For the price vs performance, it's right up there with Arko.
WhollyKaw Tallow and Donkey Milk Shaving Soap, Monaco Royale Best soap money can buy
Geo F Trumper Eucris Shaving Soap Refill.Eucris Shaving Soap (refill) by the renowned Geo F Trumpers is an easy lathering shave soap with a classic English fragrance scent that is outstanding. It's masculine, it's refined and it's easy to see why James Bond wore the cologne in Diamonds Are Forever. I would definitely buy this refill again and would love to have the Cologne. It's also very well priced for the refill given the name and luxury status of the product. I'd highly recommend this product.
Proraso Shaving Cream Soap, Green Tea & Oat, 150g Tub "I have very sensitive skin and a tough beard. I have had a hard time finding soaps/creams that provide a good cushion, but don't burn my skin. For years I've stayed with Tabac, which I still like. But, Proraso Green Tea and Oat -- which says it's for sensitive skin -- is a revelation. Not only does it make my skin feel good after a shave, but it gives a thick, long-lasting lather, with just a little bit of cream. I'm still not sure I'm that crazy about the scent, which to me smells like lemon candy, but I'd definitely buy it again, and at West Coast Shaving it comes at a good price.
Omega Eucalyptus Shaving Cream Soap in Bowl.I had no idea a cream at this price could be so good! This cream has the lovely smell of eucalyptus oil, lathers up like a dream, and leaves one?s face feeling refreshed. This is a good cream for wet-shaving beginners, especially if you are on a budget.
Captain's Choice Shaving Soap, Lime.A great product. Great smell, feel and texture for a great price.
Tiki Bar Soap, 1920s Barber Shoppe Tallow Shaving Soap.Tiki's 1920's Barbershop Shaving Soap produces a rick, slick, protective lather that allows a close, comfortable shave. The fragrance is indeed old school: To my nose, it's almost identical to Brooks Brothers 1818 Cologne. Alas, I find the musk note in both to be a bit heavy handed, so while this well-crafted soap will remain in my rotation, it won't be a favorite.
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap with Ceramic Bowl.MWF is a great soap, and the bowl has an awesome old school look that looks great sitting on the bathroom sink. The scent is nice, a very mild soapy scent.
Haslinger Schafmilch Shaving Soap with Sheep Milk and Lanolin Easy to lather, good protection, very slick and your face feels great all day. I definitely will be a repeat buyer of this soap.
Tabac Original Shaving Soap Refill Personally I would give the soap a 4.5...I'm not sure I am a fan of the scent...but my opinion aside it is an excellent soap for these reasons: 1.) While I don't care for the scent...it does have an odd note of tobacco in it..that scent if you like it, lasts for some time. I've still detected it a good hour and a half later. 2.) It lathers quickly in a bowl...maybe 30 seconds...and is enough for a good two to three passes. 3.) It lasts a long time.
Tabac Original Shaving Soap Refill. This amazing soap cushions the blade like no other I've tried. You just can't beat tallow for protection. The scent is very strong. It's a spicy soapie German up in your face puck and it forces the love it or hate it reactions. I love it. Makes me want to dress up in lederhosen and drink out of a stein. A triple milled soap - 6 months and only half gone, yet generates a fantastic lather.
Czech & Speake No. 88 Shaving Dish with Soap I am please with the product. For me it is an affordable luxury so I won't complain of the high price for the good. My only disappointment was that product was not in when I wanted to order but that was mitigated by follow-up WCS did in tracking my desire and notifying me when it was in stock.
Tabac Original Shaving Soap with Bowl. This is by far one of the best shave soaps in the market. The scent is great and does not irritate. In terms of lather the soap lathers up easily with any shave brush in just four to five swipes. The lather itself is not thick, will not clog your double edge razor, will rinse easily off a straight and leaves your skin with little irritation. I am always left with little to minimal irritation since I have to shave twice a day. A bummer but I do get to treat myself to the great scent of tabac every morning. Due to the was of use of the product I recommend it for those with no time to heat up a scuttle. Just let your brush soak for a few minutes, shake dry and start lathering. The lather just glides off and rinses off incredibly well. Every wet shaver I know has tabac in their weekly rotation. From the beginners using Derby blades to seasoned gents using straight razors.
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap with Ceramic Bowl.BUY IT!!!!! Cella close 2nd!
Institut Karite Shaving Soap.Lathers easily. Nice subtle scent. Makes for an enjoyable shave.
