Wet Shaving 3.0 - Welcome to Our New Home

| 21 comment(s)

f you've been here before, you know things look a little different around here today. I wouldn't be exaggerating when I say this has been an immense amount of work for an entire team of people. This project actually started about two years. I'd love to say everything followed the plan, but there were many start and stops, complete abandonment of completed work, and many, many lost hairs. What finally made our store upgrade possible was finding the right software and right people. That may seem obvious, but it's incredible hard to do.

You're looking at our new home and we hope you love the improvements. What does this mean for you?

Most importantly, if you have been to our site before, you're account was migrated. However, your password, being encrypted was not. It's a security thing.Simply request a password reset, follow the link in the email and you'll be on your way in a few minutes.

What else can you expect from this snazzy new store?

 • Improved navigation. We admit the old site became a little overwhelming with more than 2,000 products. We've spent a lot of time making navigation more intuitive and more usable. You'll see attribute filtering on the left column for categories now, which will help you narrow down your choices. Right now we have only a few, but will be building this out as we go.
 • Ease of checkout. Seriously. Just try it. How did we ever live with our old checkout?
 • Bigger photos! Yea!
 • Easier to find customer care info. Click that drop-down in the upper-left corner.
 • Improved content. We've built out some new pages, like our Buyer's Guide and What is Traditional Shaving, and will be working on making these and others reference quality pages.
 • A lot of what you see just plain works better. Gift certificates are easy to use. You can select how many items to show when viewing categories. Search is easier to use. Many, many more but not enough space to list them all.
 • There are a ton of new features available to us and we will be rolling them out over the next couple weeks.

We've been testing and testing. I found an issue at 2:00am last night. Er...morning? If you find anything, please let us know. We are working around the clock to make sure this site is the best shaving and grooming site on the planet. And yes, we know some pages still need a little cleanup (like this one) and we're on it!

Even if you don't find a problem, we'd love the feedback on the new site. We're pretty proud of it and hope you enjoy it even more than we do.

And about that joke...

"A man asked the barber How much for a haircut?
$20 said the barber.
And how much for a shave?
OK, shave my head."

All the best from your West Coast Shaving Family!

Not sure I'm happy about the changes... I had to reset my password, lost my wish list and all of my order histories are gone.

Wow. So different... looks nice. Can't wait to browse some more, and I appreciate the warning on the password. Just glad I scrolled all the way down, I was wondering if I had the wrong URL typed in.

MH, Sorry about having to reset your password. I know it's an annoyance, but it's per security requirements and for your safety. All passwords are encrypted and when you move data from one database to the other you don't get to see the password. So it was impossible to move. The wishlist and order history will be showing up on your account over the next few days. We wanted to make sure the migration was complete before we moved everything over so we didn't leave anything behind. Let us know if you don't see anything by the end of the weekend. John, yes, that is a concern. We're going to put up a notice higher up in the page so people aren't caught so off guard. Thanks for the comments!

Oh, no worries about the password. Great to hear that the rest will be migrated. The site looks great (forgot to mention that)!

Love the bigger pictures. Makes a lot of difference. And are you guys no longer going to be doing the deal-a-day? :) Or just not on the site yet? Not sure how good of thing that was or not.

The deal of the day is coming back, but maybe not forever. It hasn't proved to be very popular. We've got some other ideas we're working that might be more interesting.

One thing to maybe look into - the cookie expires sooo fast. Could we possibly get for the browsing session, or an hour or so?

Hi John, good suggestion. I'll see if that can be extended. Thanks!

Thank you very much. Check out was pretty easy. And while I don't have tons of excess funds, I certainly do make sure to always check here. Also, LOVE the improved photos. Only way to make them better might be to hold a dollar to the side so we can see scale. :) Overall, pretty pleased so far in general.

Any word as to when we will see our wish lists and order histories back? Thanks,

If all goes well, we should have wish lists loaded tomorrow. We ran into a minor snag with the order histories which may take another day or so to resolve. All the data is there, it's just how it's loaded into the system while presenting the data as you'd expect. We've got our best people on it!

Hmm, I thought I had a wish list in the old system. Currently it and my one order are still missing in the new one. You guys still working on orders?

Charles, we're almost done loading the wish lists. Orders will come over after that.

Great! The history has arrived. Just one more thing. My account history shows that everything is unpaid. This is incorrect.

Hi Alan, we are away of the old orders showing unpaid and are working on a solution.

Why do I have a temporary wish list. I am prompted to move my items to a permanent wish list but I can't figure out how to do that.

Jerald, the temporary wish list is for building a list when you're not sure what you want in it. When you finalize the list, you can select the items you want to move into a permanent list. You must be logged into your account to do this. Once you are, you can create multiple permanent wishlists, move products into or off those lists. You can even make one public and send to your friends as a gift registry. If you need more help, give our staff a call or email and we'll get you helped right away.
