If you like a nice fragrance when you're shaving but don't want it to be too strong, Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Scuttle Soap will likely appeal to you a great deal. It has essential oils but the smell is very discrete. This is great if you don't like any aroma at all or if you want to put on something that has a scent of its own and if you don't want them to clash with one another. This is a refill, 57g in size. If you don't have a mug or bowl to put it in, you can get them here for very reasonable prices.

Use a brush, lather it up and spread it across your beard and moustache. Give it about a minute to really soak in and your whiskers will be ready for the blade. They cut much more easily if you take your time, and it's worth it to do so. The results are remarkably better than what you'll get out of cheap foams and gels that come in cans. This is a gentleman's product, particularly well-suited for those who like to be a bit subtle in their choices for grooming.

Size: 58g

Made in England.

Shaving advice is mostly subjective

I’ve seen enough shaving videos to know that many men think cartridge razors are just wrong ,and mounds of rich thick lather is required. I own many DE razors and really like to use them with thick lathers from many exotic soaps. The lather from this soap is thin and has very little body. But with this soap and cartridge razor I always get the closest, most comfortable shave possible.

The right fit and the right shave

I bought this soap because I thought it would fit my Truefitt and Hill scuttle. Not only was the fight right, but pulling my brush from the scuttle and running it across the top of this soap a few times produced a rich creamy lather that virtually exploded on my face giving me a very close , comfortable shave and left my face smooth and soft.

Straight Razor Scuttle Perfection

Lovely stuff, fits an antique-style Vulfix scuttle perfectly, and I do mean perfectly. Excess water runs down into the scuttle basin per design. I've grated larger pucks and packed them into the smaller scuttle bowl in the past, but this works better for drainage. Probably not the least expensive by ounce, but plus one for ease of use with the scuttle brush soaker. I face-lather and using my usual technique on first try easily built up a beautiful, dense lather after loading a Simpson Colonel brush directly on the scuttle. I could probably use even less soap in the future, so longevity should be good. Scent is indeed very subtle and the box is marked fragrance-free. It has the least soap smell of any shaving soap I've used to date, just a very subtle whiff of cologne during use. I have sensitive skin and no issues so far. I now have pretty much a perfect quadrant with a hallow ground straight razor, a badger brush, the scuttle soaker, and the Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Scuttle Soap.

A foamy link with the past

Having used a variety of shaving soaps over the past 50 years this has become my unshakable favorite. As long as this is available, I will not be trying alternatives.
