Irritates my skin
This is undoubtedly a quality product and it is highly regarded. However, I thought the scent was too strong and my skin felt inflamed, like an allergic reaction after I used it. There was no redness or damage, but my face felt hot and irritated, like an allergic reaction. This is probably rare, but I did see a reference to such a reaction on another site. I have not had this reaction to Proraso, Speik, Palmolive, or La Toja. Go figure. The lather was just okay, not as good as the other products listed. I have not tried other Sandalwood products, so maybe Sandalwood doesn't agree with me.
Really like this stuff
Soaps and creams need to have two main qualities for the traditional shaver''_cushion and slickness. An added benefit to any soap or cream is whether it can leave the face moisturized after use. TOBS Shaving Stick does two of the above three: it has wonderful slickness and it leaves my face feeling more hydrated after the shave. However, this product does not foam well, but I use it as a base to the TOBS shaving soap in puck form or with the cream when traveling. In both situations, this stick version of the soap adds tremendous comfort to my shaves. Regarding the scent, I'm a fan of TOBS sandalwood. It has a very vintage barbershop smell. It's not as refined as a high-end sandalwood cologne, but it has a great everyday, clean smell that keeps me coming back to this product.
I got this thinking the scent would be more like the essential oil of sandalwood. It doesn't smell like sandalwood to me. Since this isn't a tallow based soap, it's more difficult to lather. Decent shave stick.
