West Coast Shaving Exclusive Omnibus Base
  • A handcrafted, tallow-based shaving soap
  • Loaded with tallow, glycerin, and Kokum Butter
  • Scented with fougere notes and Mousse de Saxe

Barrister and Mann is an artisan soap maker making waves with their fascinating scents and fabulous lather. Like many who got their start in soap making, this artisan wanted to battle sensitive skin and run-of-the-mill scents. Will did that in spades. His tallow-soap is a dream come true. Try Barrister and Mann Shaving Soap, Beaudelaire.

Like all Barrister and Mann shaving soaps, this Omnibus base whips up a creamy, dreamy, dense, protective lather. Not content to rest on his laurels, Will has continued to innovate and this formula was worth waiting for. It is loaded with skin-nurturing ingredients to bring you an exceptional shave but it is lanolin-free. Whether you lather by face or by mug, this tallow-based shaving soap will give you fabulous protection, lubrication, and post-shave effects.

Beaudelaire is Barrister and Mann's much-loved (and recently re-released) fragrance that marries light and dark, sweet and bitter, clean and dirty, nice and naughty. It starts with the classic fougere accord known for its notes of lavender, oakmoss, and coumarin which give it a green, clean, fresh appeal. Then it is blended with Barrister and Mann's own recreation of Mousse de Saxe, a unique, richly bitter aroma of dusky, leathery, decadent charm. Along with ylang, ylang, rose, and sandalwood, this aroma is dark, soapy, and irresistible. Like the controversial poet, Charles Beaudelaire, this scent symbolizes elegance and debauchery, sweetness and sin.

Great Soap, Great Scent!

I've been a wet shaver for at least 40 years. I started out with Colgate and Williams shave soaps, then discovered 1903 from J Peterman, and then the Ogallala soaps. I'm proof that an old dog can learn new tricks. After finding WCS last month, I have now learned the proper way to load a brush and develop lather and how important they are for a close shave. Who knew there were so many different soaps and creams to choose from? I'm now like a kid in a candy factory: I want one of those and one of those and... lol One of the first I decided to try was B&M's Beaudelaire. I knew I was taking a chance because I had no idea what Mousse de Saxe was or smelled like. I was afraid it was patchouli which I loathe, but I have used soaps since with the latter and they aren't objectionable. Beaudelaire was a pleasant surprise. Most soaps, to me, smell great in the jar, but I perceive no scent on my face or post shave. Beaudelaire is not in that category. The scent is nice all around, but not so strong that it overpowers everything. It lathers well and lubricates my skin for the blade. I've come to the conclusion that scents are a personal preference and the most important aspects of any shave soap or cream is its ability to lather well and lubricate. B&M hit it out of the park with Beaudelaire and, so far, it is my favorite scent.

Baudelaire Shaving Soap

I very much love this shaving soap. It lathers up beautifully, and provides a very smooth shave. The packaging is also attractive, and I'm happy to have it out on my counter. Given that it's a pretty solid soap, as opposed to a cream, I suspect it's going to go quite a long way. Perhaps best of all, I really love the scent. Highly recommended.
