Simpson Persian Jar brush
Soft bristles, but does not hold water well. Does not lather my shaving cream as well as the brush it replaced.
Simpson Persian jar
Good but badger hair a step below quality expected at this price point. My Edwin Jagger better more full
This brush has a smaller knot size than my Simpson Commodore but a bit more length from handle to tip of the badger hair resulting in a soft sensation when using the brush. The brush lathers with the tips rapidly using an Edwin Jagger soap in the scuttle and on the face. The smaller knot size and greater length of the badger hair make keeping the soap out of ones nose a bit more reliable and lathering faster. The badger hair isn't silver tip, it is best badger, and remarkably soft. A high quality shaving brush is a must for an enjoyable shave. The sensation is as a feather applying the soap lather to my beard. I started with an inexpensive shave brush an was immediately convinced to upgrade as it was harsh and scratchy to apply lather that wasn't as thick and lubricating as needed. The brush determines the quality and thickness of the lather, thin lather results in lack of lubrication and resultant nicks and ingrown hair follicles. Don't go cheep on your brush!
I purchased this brush as a first brush in December 2014. What a great purchase! I picked it due to the knot size and loft. The bristles are extremely soft, however have sufficient backbone to whip cream into a thick lather in short order. I have used this to face lather and it works well too. No shedding of bristles. I have large hands and this fits very well. 5 stars for quality, workmanship, and price.
I love this new brush. I have two other brushes from Simpson. This one is wonderful with creams. Whips up a hugh amount of shaving cream for the face.
