  • Simpson shaving brush
  • Loaded with best badger hair
  • Faux ivory handle stamped with the Simpson logo

Alexander Simpson first started turning out brushes in London's East End in 1919. His growing business moved and innovated over the years, but the heart -- and art -- of handcrafted brushes hasn't changed. Check out this excellent brush: Simpsons Berkeley Best Badger Shaving Brush 46B.

The Berkeley 46 is a fine brush at a fine price. It's packed with Simpson Best Badger with good density. Best badger hair is high quality hair with creamy tips and a dark band. Better than pure but not quite silvertip, this hair will give you everything you are looking for in badger. From the excellent water absorption to the soft face feel, you can't go wrong with this tool. It will whip up a frothy lather for multiple passes.

On the smaller side of brushes, the handle is still comfortable and looks good to boot. It is lathe-turned, faux ivory with a non-slip bevel to help with grip in wet environments. And it is stamped with the Simpson logo so you know you are getting quality.

This brush is also available in Pure Badger hair for a more economical choice.

Time for a real brush

I've been using a brush for years, but they were the "less expensive" ones. Then I found West Coast Shaving and started reading and watching their blogs and video gaining an education in wet shaving. One of the things I learned was the importance of a good brush so I finally bought one. What a difference it makes. This Simpson is a great brush. Not the most expensive, and not the cheapest, but a darn good brush!

Bearded men, take note.

Yes, bearded men shave. A clean neck followed by a proper neckline can elevate the appearance of a well manicured beard, and the Berkeley 46B might be the perfect lathering brush such a purpose. It's built well, it's perfectly sized, and it lathers quickly with just enough backbone for hard soap. The bristles feel great and the brush maneuvers wonderfully. In fact, it's become my primary brush over the more expensive Chubby 2.

A real brush...

This is a great badger brush. It's smaller than many brushes that I have had but is plenty to get the job done. It has more spine than I expected, which makes the brush very efficient. A terrific brush from a great old company.

A little small

Nice brush I just didn't realize it was so small. Good size for travel

Solid value

I own one other SImpson brush, the Wee Scot, which is also an excellent brush, priced about the same as I bought this brush on sale. The Wee Scot is more frugal on using soap/cream, but this brush is more luxurious. Take your pick as either brush is excellent for the price.
